Perfectly handling a vast range of codec's this player meets the demand of the most diverse film collection and has beginning signs of media-box tendencies
The good: Progressive scanning makes playback crisp and sharp. Codec support is impressive, flawlessly playing XviD, AC3-sound, MP3, OGG, DivX 3.1, and DivX 4, 5. Firmware is updated regularly. Easy installation of Ethernet and accompanied software, KiSS PC-Link.
The bad: The size of this player is larger than common slim DVD players today. DVD player menu is not all that logic.
The DP-500, is KiSS Technologies second edition that supports playback for the very popular DivX codec and many of its likes. See specs. Many other DVD producers will undoubtedly follow but as of writing the DP-500 is the only official DivX Certified DVD player on the market and for the same reason maybe the best.
It has taken the first step to becoming a media-box with Ethernet support and Web Radio though not embracing the idea fully. It fails with the missing hard disk. A fall down which its brother, DP-508 picks up on with an 80 GB hard disk.
So if you are looking for good performance and not worried about the aesthetics then this player is for you.
