Remarks on Arabic Subs

Eversince my Language Assistant for Arabic was entrusted with checking Arabic subtitles, the following has emerged:

1) Many translators tend to appropriate other people's work and attribute it to themselves.
Not only is this behaviour not decent but I am afraid it isn't very smart either, since it can easily be found out either by the code number assigned to each sub or by date of upload! Moreover, all the improper subtitles are deleted in any case.

2) Some users attach an Arabic "readme" text to their subs, inviting to join certain forums that are obviously of commercial nature, and/or torrent files, and/or links which lead to files that have nothing to do with subtitles, such as pictures, mp3, and so on.
ALL this is strictly forbidden and, as some of you may have noticed, will lead to a friendly warning followed by permanent ban in case of repeated behaviour.

3) Users are apparently having problems with idx+sub files since these are mostly the ones with lowest rates.
What's the point of going on posting subtitles people don't want/like?
Of course idx+sub files cannot be modified and therefore translators prefer such format so their credits won't be removed. However maybe that's also the reason why people don't like them, since these kinds of subs cannot be synched according to everyone's needs.

The best thing to do would be:
- post your subtitles in a normal text file (.srt, .sub, etc)
- add an English comment to your upload stating the translation
belongs to you
- Contact an admin to claim your rights as a translator so we can take action in case your subtitles are mislabelled and reposted.
Your comment and the date of your upload will enforce your position, but you'd better contact an admin before anything happens, so there can be no doubt about what you claim. A few users have already done that, and I was very happy to help them.

4) Many users/translators rate other people's subtitles "bad" and their own subtitles "good" many times.
You're kindly invited to stop doing that, because no matter how many subtitles you have uploaded or how good your translations are, you'll receive a friendly warning followed by permanent ban in case of repeated behaviour and your subtitles will be removed from the site.

5) Checking the Arabic subtitles for "I am Legend", tonight I've noticed that the identical idx+sub file which, by the way, was mislabelled as "Polish", was posted by a dozen people who spam-rated each other. My patience is almost limitless, but this childish behaviour was really the last straw and I have decided that, from now
on, when I see something like that I'll simply delete ALL the subtitles, independently on the date/hour of upload, unless you PREVIOUSLY contact me with evidence that the subtitles were translated by you, and provided that you don't spam-rate ANYONE's subs, either if they were uploaded by other people or by yourself.

Notice: The anonymous status CANNOT HIDE ANYONE from admins.

ملاحظات علي الترجمات العربية للافلام

منذ عهدت الى مساعدتي في اللغة العربية بمراجعة الترجمات العربية الواردة الى الموقع لاحظنا ما يلي:

1- يعمد كثير من المترجمين الي الاستيلاء على ترجمات الاخرين ونسبها الى انفسهم. وهو تصرف  فضلا عن أنه غير لائق لا يتسم بالذكاء !
   حيث أنه من السهل اكتشافه اما عن طريق الرقم الكودي المخصص لكل ترجمة أو تاريخ ارسال الترجمة للموقع. والحاصل أن مثل هذه الترجمات
   يتم شطبها على كل حال.

2- يقوم بعض المترجمين بارفاق نص ملحق بالترجمة يدعون فيه المستخدمين الى زيارة بعض مواقع المنتديات ذات الصبغة التجارية أو ارفاق    ملفات  تحتوي  على أفلام و/أو روابط لتحميل ملفات لا علاقة لها بالترجمة مثل الصور أو ألاغاني وما الى ذلك.  
   كل هذه التصرفات   ممنوعة منعا باتا وستدعونا , كما قد يكون لاحظ بعضكم, الى ارسال انذارات بصفة ودية فى البداية ثم منع
   التعامل في حالة التكرار.

3- من الواضح أن كثير من المستخدمين لديهم مشكلة فى التعامل مع ملفات
idx + sub
بدليل  حصولها على أقل معدلات التقييم.
   مالجدوى اذا في الاستمرار في ارسال مثل هذه الملفات التي لا يريد أحد استخدامها ؟ ويتراءى لى أن بعض المترجمين يفضلون هذه الصيغة لانها
  غير قابلة للتعديل أو التغيير وبذا يضمنون عدم المساس بتقديراتهم . الا أن هذا نفسه قد يكون ألسبب في عدم تفضيل الكثيرين لاستخدامها نظرا لعدم
  امكان ضبط التوقيت حسب احتياج كل مستخدم.

 وأفضل ما يمكن عمله لتجنب هذا هو :
  - ارسال الترجمة بواسطة ملف عادى (srt, sub, الخ)
  -   اضافة ثعليق
    بالانجليزية
موضحا فيه أن الترجمة تخصك  
  - الاتصال بأحد المسئولين في الموقع
لاثبات حقك كمترجم  ليتسنى لنا القيام باللازم في حالة ما اذا قام أحدهم باستخدام الترجمة الخاصة بك
     واعادة ارسالها.فبالرغم من أن التعليق وتاريخ الارسال سيقويان موقفك الا انه من الافضل مراجعة أحد المسئولين منذ البداية حتى لا يكون هناك مجال للشك  فى أحقيتك للترجمة وهو ما قد قام به البعض بالفعل وكان من دواعي سرورى مساعدتهم.

4- يقوم كثير من المستخدمين/المترجمين بتقييم ترجمات الآخرين "كسيئة" وترجماتهم "جيدة". ونحن ندعوكم شاكرين أن تتوقفوا عن مثل هذه التصرفات. فأيا  كان عدد الترجمات التى قمتم بارسالها ومهما كانت جيدة فسنقوم بارسال تحذير بصفة ودية اولا متبوعا بالمنع من التعامل في حالة التكرار مع رفع الترجمات من الموقع.

5- لاحظت اليوم, على سبيل المثال, وأنا اراجع الترجمة الخاصة بفيلم "انا اسطورة" والتى ذكر بالخطأ انها بولندية ثم اتضح أنها
عربية بأن العديد من المترجمين قاموا بارسال
نفس ملف idx +sub بحذافيره
بالاضافة الي رسائل متتابعة قاموا فيها بتقييم بعضهم البعض !!   ان صبرى لا حدود له الا أن هذا التصرف الصبيانى كان بمثابة القشة التى قصمت ظهر البعير. وبناء عليه فقد قررت أنه من الآن فصاعدا في حالة  تكرار مثل هذا التصرف سأقوم بكل بساطة بشطب جميع الترجمات بصرف النظر عن تاريخ\ساعة ارسالها الا اذا كان هناك "اتصال مسبق

من  قبل المترجم بى  مصحوبا بما يدل على أن الترجمة تخصه, شريطة ألا تقوموا  بتقييم اية ترجمة ترد الى الموقع سواء كانت تخصكم أو تخص
مترجمين اخرين.

ملحوظة : صفة "مجهول" المصاحبة لكثير من الترجمات لن تمنع ادارة الموقع من معرفة الشخص المسئول

thats happen to me in my subtitle(Battlestar Galactica Razor)

somone name abcd rate my subtitle in bad cuse he have same subtitle but he has it in vobsub but mine is srt............idont know why he do like that so irate his by bad and it is bad acculy the subtitle time is very bad in his subtitle>>>>thanks

is it only arab users who are having problems here ?  if so, why is that ??

when I see something like that I'll simply delete ALL the subtitles

JAWS2010: yes, it's what i'm going to do if users are like kids: treat them like kids... when you have 2 children and they fight for the same toy, you just take it away, you don't choose one of them to give it, untill they make peace and understand they have to play LOYALLY and RESPECTFULLY of one another.

being on of the arabic translators who release their subtitles on this site, i'm glad to say that this is very good news.

i was actually thinking of writing to the admins asking them to do something.

Thank you lyliakar, glad that someone at last decide to do something to stop the situation that we all (arab translators and users) were not agree nor happy with .

wishing that someday Subscene will have a procedure( pre-check translation files by admin board) to make sure give the credit to the real translator.

ahmedkamal2007, unfortunately you cannot resynch the subs in idx+sub format. you can search google to find a different solution about turning them into .srt.

everyone: we're taking note of all the translators who are replying to this post and also of those who contacted me in private, so we can directly delete all the copies in the future.

and please you must know that there is afew bad persons who do that in order to be famous (he or his site)

dear ma_ru, i also dream that one day translators can post their subtitles on .srt etc files with no fear. to do that i'm trying to create some kind of translators database, i'm thinking of a way in these days, but i'm not the webmaster. in any case something will be done sooner or later.

first of all this is a free place and i'm free to make my post the way i believe it's more proper. just as you're free to express your opinion.
second, you seem to be the only one among the arab users who have interpreted my post in an offensive way, so please say what it is about it you find offensive.

on the contrary my post came out of the respect i have for all those arab users who are honest and make a lot of effort to make their translations, and there are many of them, and then they often see other users replace their credits.
now since there are more than 13000 arabic subtitles in our site, it's obvious that the phenomenon is widespread.

i cannot render this post generic to hide the truth, pretending that this isn't happening to arabic subtitles. of course it would be "politically correct", but it would also be a lie, and i don't lie.

there's nothing i have against arab users, on the contrary, moreover i'm a translator too, and i understand how people feel when their efforts are in vain.
i think the majority of the people here have understood my intentions.
if i didn't care for arab users, or if you weren't all welcome here, i would have simply deleted all the subs and stopped the uploads of arabic subtitles... since that didn't happen it means that all the arab users are more than welcome, but they have to behave according to the rules, like everyone else.
