PROBLEM - Virtual dub, and vobsub (audio, and subs) [Solved] bookmark topic | reload topic

Well i got a problem with Virtual dub, vobsub didnt work with me , some installing error so i used subtitler filter, DivX codecs , well i don't have the right ones so i use the Xvid mpeg 4 (or something like that) codec, compressing worked fine, but the file is 100 mb smaller and audio and subtitles are behind on the video, really strange cuze befor burning, audio worked perfectly

I hope you can help me, BlueFoX

But i do have this error:

the error means that virtualdub doesn't like vbr audio.

please visit www.doom9.org for further help about encoding and codecs. you should use a bitrate calculator such as gordian knot to make sure that the final size is correct and to keep high quality.

Nandub can handle VBR.
It looks exactly the same as virtualm dub and you can probably find it via doom9, like Lyli says.

it is true, but nandub isn't good for encoding.

he should separate video and audio and encode them separately, but gordianknot (or autogk is simpler) will do everything also allowing him to calculate the correct final size.

all that can be found on doom9.

I still don't think AutoGK is the tool you need and I don't agree completely with what Lyli said, but I could be wrong.

Saying that Nandub isn't good for encoding is imho a wrong statement:
both GordianKnot and AutoGK use virtualdub/nandub for encoding.

AutoGK is an easy to use tool for converting DVDs to Xvid (avi).
When you start from DVD and open the ifo file in AutoGK it will automaticly detect the subtitle streams from the DVD.
As far as I know there is no way of using external subs with AutoGK directly.

Now the part where I agree with Lyli :
You need to split the audio and the video with Nandub.
-Open your avi with Nandub and select "File/Save Wav".
(ignore the fact that it says wav: if it's mp3 it will stay mp3)
-Then you select "Audio/No audio" and "Video/Direct Stream copy"
and save with "File/Save as avi"

You now have your video and audio seperated.
Now you need to look up some guides on how to multiplex your subs into the video file. (you can use Gordian Knot to calculate the settings)
Once that is done, you can merge the audio and video together again.
When you do that make sure you select the correct audio interleaving parameters.

I don't know if this article is still useable, so let us know if it is/isn't :o)

Rafke you are right, GK also uses nandub, but only for muxing the audio to the video. the reason is that vdub is a lot more accurate as regards the bitrate calculation - which also means better accuracy as regards the file size - but doesn't like vbr.

as regards subtitling, in theory GK allows you to add a vobsub file to the avi you're creating, and vobsubs allow more tracks in a single file.
there are many other vobsub makers around too, but - this is a problem i had - i couldn't find a single way to create one with multiple subs.

actually i haven't understood completely what our user really means, but if he has the problem to add multiple subtitle tracks to a video i suggest that he makes a dvd.

http://forum.videohelp.com is the best site to learn all about that.

Well as far as I understood BlueFox wants to add subs (vobsubs or srt) to an existing avi file, but he has some issues with the tools involved.
That would rule out AutoGK as the tool to use. (me thinks)

I'm not going to argue about virtualdub, nandub or virtualdubmod since I didn't follow the evolution. I always thought that nandub was the improved version of virtualdub and that virtualdubmod was the latest and most advanced.
Like I said I could be wrong, but this discussion is off topic anyway :o)

@BlueFox : Are you sure you want to permenatly add the subs to your movie file ? There are plenty of programs that allow you to view subs with the movie.
I guess that you need it for a standalone player. In that case it's probably needed.

Problem already solved , thx , with autogk u CAN add subtitles by pressing ctrl + F8,
