Using 2 networks card in one PC.....

any good tip or so...

i will use the ordinary/primary Network card...   connected to my ISP contact..

the other Network card.. i would like to hook up to my X-Box.....

ISP contact..
The network card is installed towards a static IP, towards a netmask and 2 DNS and a standard gateway..

X-Box contact..
Network card should be installed with a static IP towards box..... as usual...

But the problem is...  how do the programs now wich network card to use.....

and is there anything else to think of......

have the same setup, the programs know through the ip address jens, explorer will know which one is the internet connection etc, since the other ip is local.

there is nothing really to pay attention to, it's very straight forward.

you can have two cards in one PC then...

I have a wireless network card in my puter, this ones for my home network, internet etc..

But if i stick a normal card in will i be able to connect that one to another single machine, like my linux box...?

I have all my pc's connected that way .. but i have no clue about the XBoX :(
I use NetBeui protocol as it is very easy to use .
All I have to do is--
1. Install Netbeui on all pc's
2. Make sure all all pc's have the same workroup name
3. On my main box i have in TCPiP my static address-DNS-blah-blah
4. On my other pc's i have in TCPiP that they get the IP automatically

LiKE i SAiD I have no clue about what you can do with the XBoX so this may be help it may not .

LaTER

AnD Coo yes you should be able to ... don't know the settings though in LiNUX sorry :(

yes, everything is possible, no need for netbeui, it's a total different protocol opposed to tcp/ip.

No worries on network cards, really, everything is possible

I have the same setup.  When browsing the internet it automattically used the one connected to my network.  XboxConnect automatically detected the xbox too.  You shouldn't have to set anything extra up.

yep, so true guys...

i tested it a week ago...   but i had some probs...

therefor this topic :-)

since my ISP contact is thruu...  static IP and DNS and so.....

my other network card also want to use DNS, and i dont want to..
dont need to..  but i cant uncheck that box.....

Hm..

well, when i have time i will try some tricks...

would be easy to have it like that..  instead as i have to do now....    unconnect server , hook up to X-Box and so on...

should be nesesery to disconnect the isp to play with xbox .

check your isp nic and what ip you have on it if its 192.*.*.* then use 10.0.0.* on your xbox nic or opposite if you have 10.0.0.* on your isp .if you have another adress inet adress ie 150.5.4.45 or similar you can use 192.168 on your xbox nic and enable sharing on your pc so you can go live on xbox trow your pc.

nic = network interface card

they are different...

ISP is 2**.***.***.***
Xbox  192.168.***.***

so thats not the problem.

if you do that sharing i told you everything should work fine dns will be set by dhcp to your pc wich will look on the other connection and get the dns info from there

since we're on the subject, lemme pitch a question of my own :o)

Consider the following set-up, PC1 has 2 NICs, one of which is linked up to a DSL modem, the other interface is linked with PC2.

modem---------------------------------PC1-----------------------------------PC2
10.0.0.138                      10.0.0.1       192.168.0.1                  192.168.0.2

Default gateway for PC1, obviously, is 10.0.0.138. PC2 currently has no gateway. Is there any way i can add a route or whatever so I can use the internet on PC2?

Thx in advance for any and all advice,
phaelox

enable IP forwarding (possibly Connection Sharing on windows, I dunno :) on PC1 and set the default route / default gateway on PC2 to 10.0.0.138

that should work

since we're on the subject i'm gonna post a question too:

is it possible to use 2 network cards (1 from my isp and one i buy at a store)
and hook both up to increase the download speed for example?
thx in advance

to youri:

yes, no problem, use any internet connection sharing software, like the one built in in xp (works well)

and not as 3k said, but you have to set the gateway to be the ip of the local PC1 (thus being 192.168.0.1). Setting the 10. as gateway won't work, because in the eyes of PC2, that does not exist, it always has to go through PC1 to learn about it's existence.

yep, with NAT/"sharing" you must use PC1 as gateway.. I suggested ip forwarding. But I dunno if that is possible in windows so you probably want to stick to daxies solution

OK, thx for the input daxie & soren.... btw, jan, that site's down :-\

Enabled ICS on Nic1, which remained IP 10.0.0.1/GW 10.0.0.138
It set Nic2 to IP 192.168.0.1/GW none, like it already was
And PC2 has IP 192.168.0.3/GW 192.168.0.1/DNS from ISP

works like a charm and no need for winroute :D

thx again guys,
phaelox
