Hi,

I have repeatedly tried to rip a concert DVD with DVD Decrypter by ripping the AC3 audio, and it always clips when I convert it into MP3. I've tried lowering the gain but it clips even after that, is there anything to fix this? I just got another concert DVD and would love to be able to play it in my car.

BTW the DVD I was ripping was Metallica Cunning Stunts

Thanks

DVD Decrypter doesn't touch the audio stream itself, so it's caused by the mp3 encoding. One thing you may want to check is the speaker range, it may be simply that the frequency range of the AC3 is below the capacity of your car audio, which is probably not home cinema material.

If it's clipping even when played back on the PC, why don't you just turn off all gains?

What tools are you using ?
I'm not an expert in these things, but if I needed to do it I would use BeSweet in combination with Azid.
You can find both programs through www.doom9.org

actually the besweet ac3 plugin is buggy, it's in many forums you can find googling. you could try nero waveditor , the version with 5.XXX nero burning rom + the ac3 plugin [you can find it here: http://www.bitburners.com/Nero_Audio_Plugins_by_MauSau/ ] is very good for ac3 encoding (i've encoded thousands myself). not so good are the newest 7.XXX versions. of course you also need the ac3 latest codec installed. and also make sure you have the MP3 fraunhofer version. don't use lame mp3 codecs. they're bad. find all such codecs on www.doom9.org

There's lots of little programs out there for audio ripping. I use one called "Xilisoft DVD Audio Ripper" which has a setting for the audio levels of the rip, and will rip to MP3 or wav. Other programs, like video editors, will demux to elementary streams (to video and PCM) and you can use that.

Note that if you rip an AC3 5:1 stream to 2 channels, the rear channels get combined with the front and the balance can get weird. Best to stay with ripping the 2 channel streams.

i forgot something which came to my mind reading sisily's post... you can also use gordianknot to decrypt a dvd and you have an option to demux the audio track as .wav there.
