Screen goes small when putting subtiles!! Damn it. bookmark topic | reload topic

Hey does anyone know why is it that when I put a subtitle to a movie, it makes the screen smaller.  It is hard to understand since i have been using subtitles for such a short time.  I don't know if it has to do with the format.
I downloaded a subtitle for chiken run and it seems to work well.  This does not make the screen go small.  However, for all other movies, it is the contrary.
Please somebody tell me how to fix this.
I'll be really really thankfull.

well think about this:
you can  put subtitles on the movie in 2 different ways.

or you put the subtitles on the movie itself

+---------------------------------------------+
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                - DO YOU LOVE ME?           |
|                - YES, I THINK SO               |
|                                                          |
+---------------------------------------------+

or you can add the subtitles underneath the movie

+---------------------------------------------+
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
+---------------------------------------------+
|                - DO YOU LOVE ME?           |
|                - YES, I THINK SO               |
+---------------------------------------------+

what's happening with you is the second option.
Because the must-be-viewable area gets bigger,
it might just be that  in proportion to the first one, the
actual movie gets smaller.

Can you verify this?

How do i fix it then.
I am kind of new in this subtitles thing.
Do i need any software to fix that.

my screen goes like this
with subtitles

---------------------------
|________________|
|                                |
|                                |
|                                |
|                                |
|___words appear__|
|            here             |
---------------------------

without subtitles
like this

--------------------------
|                              |
|                              |
|                              |
|                              |
|                              |
|                              |
-------------------------

How do i put the subtitles over the movie but not underneath it.

With BSPlayer you can even change the position of the subtitles.
