Can't create a folder with "Con." in the begining bookmark topic | reload topic

Seems strange, is it just me? I can't create a folder or rename a file with "Con." in the begining. Yes, it's for a Con.Air. release and yes if I take away the "." it works fine, so I had to name it "ConAir." but wtf can't I have a dot after "n"?

try com1. or aux. and lpt1. too

those are invalid names in windows :)

wtf I can’t do it either, lol maybe it’s a bug that bill forgot to fix.

I guess it's normal. Good cause I thought something was screwed and it said something about that a file/folder by that name exists. Strange, why on earth would con. be invalid? Ohh well, thanks for confirming.

I think in DOS it was possible to do "copy con" or something like that.
Can't remember what it did though.

It's a DOS device.
That's why all that sam said won't work either.

Copy con can either read from a file to screen or write from screen to file (depending on how you use it).

jeez didnt know that one hehe

thought it was only for com, lpt, aux, and prn

Duke, I take it you mean "con.", not "con". Cause "con" without the dot works fine.

thats why i could not create the folder con.air.DVDRip.Xvid.Sarah_not on my pc to upload the files

"u can do this ConAir."

As I mentioned that's what I did, since I tryed everything and everything else failed.
The dot makes all the difference. I even tryed to outsmart the system by changing the file name with the dot in the CD burning progy (yeah, me thought of everything :-)). It burned successfuly with the dot as "Con.Air. ..." but the dame file wouldn't play :-) That means that "con." is also invalid on cd drives also ;-(

How about you setup an ftp server on your PC and you make sure the file is accessible.
You then connect with an ftp client to your own machine and you rename the file like you would make a protected dir on a pub.

Haven't tried it myself, but maybe it's worth the shot.
(if you really want the name to be like that).

he he, I tryed that also, it denied it.
But there is no point, since even if I do get the name to "Con." (with the dot)it will not playback through the cd drive ;-)

  IM |View profileduke_n  9/23/2003 19:46:37
Lol, the reason I do not remember having any problem with it is because back when I got this one, I used _ as a separator, and not . .

BTW I just tried to name a file Con.something and it just renamed it back without popping any error messages.

@DJK, now that you mentioned it, Copy prn is a really great feature. It copies to me all the pr0n
;P

it depends on the technik you are using to name it. If you just make a new folder and name it "con." then enter it renames back to new folde. If you go to properties and rename it through there and error will come up saying the file/folder by that name already exists.

Nice tip. Gonna add this to the General OVerview.

John :-))
