Well, over the past year since I lost my job I pigged out, the result of which is a sack full of fat I've been doing stomach crunches over the past few days, with no immediate effect, not even a little. MY stomach still ripples when prodded with a stick. So, what do you guys do to keep trim and turn that fat into something else. Are you following a specific diet, if so what should I remove from my diet. I eat alot of carbs, but do so to burn off later. There was a similar topic, but that was about something similar but not the same i think, If my bench was not covered with books, i think I would use it to good effect. Cheers from belly man with two stomachs! |

Best thing is not to do the same exercise all over again. You should put some diversion in it. Situps.. sideward siteups.. crunches etc. With eating it's important that you eat at steady times, and eat healthy. (duh ofcourse healthy) Also stress tends to help for some people to loose weight, don't ask me if it's a good thing. And there's sex.. hehe.. if you want to loose weight.. just bone a lot.. it helps :-P |

That's a good topic , i'm concerned too , though i don't have too much overweight ,about 5 kilos to lose , but it'd be especially important for my backache... Well talking about sport , they told me that the only thing to do for losing weight is to do a lot of cardios /jogging , biking , etc./ 'cause lifting weight , doing situps etc. will only make you stronger but you won't lose that much weight... so now i started doing stationary bike for a while in my gym almost everyday and to lift less weight with more series it's pretty hard to go there sometimes , ok you feel better after but i think it takes a lot of time and determination for getting some results it's all in the head , as they say and talking about it you at least get a little motivation... for a day or two... :) |

before giving out alot of advanced training positions and diets how much do you walk? you need walk and excersice more often, if you dont walk( and then advance to jogging, runnin), then its useless to do situps(WELL NOT REALLY, youl get muscles but you will be as fat as before) |

thw far most effective method is amphetamine, but it is illegal and should be used with care (if used at all). other than that hard work and training |

Forgot to add.. if you want to have your sixpack visible your body fat percentage should be below 8%... otherwise.. they are there.. but you can't see them.. hehe |

Most has been said already.. If you want to lose weight.. Situps won't do any good.. Sure you'll have very strong abs after a while.. but whats the use if they're covered in fat? The best way is indeed to do a lot of cardio.. Step onto a bicycle, go jogging.. Get that heart pumping!! But still.. all those things won't help much if you tend to eat a lot of snacks like potato chips, chocolate bars or fast food. Try to stick to your daily meals and try to make those meals as healthy as possible. As to your question what I do to stay fit.. I can be found in the gym 3 times a week.. Doing so for the past 2 years, and have never regret stepping in there the first time.. |

yeah all there is true and after all that , it's a question of luck too... you got one guy who can eat a whole cake and he's gonna lose 5 kilos... and there's another guy who only THINKS OF eating one little slice of that cake and he's gonna gain 10kilos... :) |

or, skip the exercise :P you've just gotta balance your intake per omo's master plan: breakfast should incorporate your calcium requirements (cup of yoghurt, perhaps), lunch and dinner should see you balancing simple proteins (chicken, meat, fish) with the same amount of vegetables (not salads), and all 3 meals have rules- each one must be at least 4.5-5 hours apart (to give you TIME to burn fat- otherwise its just stupid), always have a peice of fruit with each meal (3 per day - your sugar requirements), and you're free to have as much salad as you want (lettuce, cucumber, celery- not tomato or capsicum, etc, as they're part of the "other vegies" you should have anyway balancing the meals.) the trick is, finding out how much of the protein to eat (which is matched by the amount of vegies)- i went with ~150g for lunch, then ~160 for dinner.... perfected the diet last year... lost an average 2 kilos a week (no bs.), and best of all, no cardio (yaaaay)- but it would have been BETTER with it. of course, went back to uni and the whole thing went straight to hell :P ... but i'm getting back on it this week when i've finished... any questions, lemme know. gl, your friendly neighborhood omo |

Another tip, eat light at supper. Cause all those calories in the evening will turn into fat. Your body doesn't need it in the evening. On the otherhand, make a rich breakfast. So you can do allot of hours without eating. Take your warm meal at dinnertime. A half an hour of heavy strain a day will loose you more calories then 2 hours of walking. But build it up slowly. Oh, and no inbetweens. Get used to some hunger in between the meals. It's healty to wait for a meal. Remember, hunger is the best sauce. In the end your body feels much better then now. In the evening you could eat some vegatables, but don't use unhealty sauces. Make your own fresh dressings. Drink allot. Drown the hunger. But not before bedtime or ... Coke, limonade, ... ban them. Drink soda water. And a glass of red wine. Tea for two, but no biscuits. Good luck! John :-)) |

Allright.... Maybe I have a couple of tips as well. But first lets introduce myself: I hate sports, I despise training. I wouldn't do a pushup at gunpoint. Diëts are not for me either, pizza and beer is a major portion of my foodgroups. However I am in excelent health, and judging by my immediate relatives this is not genetic. 1 Combine physical activity with useful things. -I walk to work... Its only 30 minutes (that would be 10 by car, or 20 by public transportation) -When I need to go further than like 3 km, I take my bike. With my Ipod as company, one or two hours on my bike is great. No problems with traffic jams, or the horrid crowdiness of busses and trains. Saves a lot of money for gas as well -There are a lot of things to do around the house, that can ofcourse be done mecanicly, but why? Like chopping wood for the fireplace, doing the dishes... brushing your teeth. 2 There are a lot of fun things to do involving physical activity. - Go dancing after taking your date to dinner - Go skating - Go to a rock concert, instead of a movie. Beats running half a marathon - sex 3 get a dog it will make you walk if its a big dog, it will make you run if you neglect the dog, it will make you clean the floor |

Those are actually very good tips JW, so true! |

sure, but there are some obvious flaws: Combine physical activity with useful things. ...like eating- takes quite alot of energy to move those jaw muscles.... or, take part in pie eating contests, There are a lot of things...that can ofcourse be done mecanicly, but why? ... damn straight! any ladies in the melbourne area who need help getting over their "mechanical" problem, just lemme know... i'd consider it an acceptable form of excercise. Go dancing after taking your date to dinner ...unless you're a fat bastard who can't get a date, of course. Go skating ...unless you're a fat b...... Beats running half a marathon ...why the heck would we run in marathons? letalone HALF a marathon- as if there wasnt a severe lack of self confidence already, now we're quitting the one activity which tests whether we've reached a significant goal... greeeaat idea. sex ...i have no problem with this one... any doubts, see above re: "mechanical" get a dog ... because taking care of your own body isn't hard enough (and what got you into this mess in the first place), now's the perfect time to take on the responsibility of another being... that'll teach ya... though i'm still inclined to agree with 'ya J... i just wanted to say all that :P omo |

:) both of you are right , only one of you is an optimist , the other one is a pessimist... |

Oh an optimist and a pessimist are very alike. An optimist believes we live in the best of all possible worlds. A pessimist fears this is true. |

Hehe, nice replies there... Well, I'll add my 2 cents. Some of you know I'm pretty up in all this diet stuff... I'll keep to add/correct what people said... First, indeed, what Vince said, stress can cause people to loose weight. BUT the weight is not fat, but muscle. Stress induces a hormone called cortisol. When this hormone is at a high level in the body, the body uses protein as an energy source, instead of carbs or fat. And what are muscles made of? Yes, proteins. So when you're stressing, chances are big you're burning muscle, not fat. So relax... Secondly, in order to see abs, you don't need to have a bf % lower than 8%. For most below 10% is enough, and while I'm currently at 11,5%, my abs still show (in correct lighting that is). Again for abs... the most common misconceptions is that abs are made by training. off course they are, but more than that "abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym". Only by a good diet and enough weight loss abs will show. Off course something needs to be there to be shown, so training is important too. Also wrong that lifting weights won't help you loose weight. False. In fact, intense weight lifting is very calorie consuming, a good 1h15 workout can burn something like 500cal. Plus the extra effect of the increased metabolism , plus the muscle tension,... In short, power training should be in every diet. Secondly, in betweens are goooood! They keep metabolism up to level, and they keep the hunger away. In a diet, hunger is the worst sauce (sorry Johnkeny!). BUT important is that the in betweens are low carbs, or even better, low in sugar. Sugar causes insulin spikes, insuline spikes cause the carbs to be stored as fat. Low GI carbs (=sugars) are BAD! As for training. Try interval training. Burns more calories than just ordinary constant pace running, biking,... At your service. daxie |

Dax u have some good points there..and i am sure ur following those concepts to have improved so much in a short time.. (so keep that up m8). but sehku.. if ur not interested in all the details, i can tell u what i do (when i am not training-which i like to do) The fact is .. You are what You EAT I eat a LOT, everyone asks me where i put the food and if i have a hole in my stomach, and IMO u can eat what u want as long as its not a lot of junk (calories) that ur body can't get rid off. |

Candyman: "Cut sugars nearly completely" Is imo the most important thing... I think sugar is more "fattening" than fat... Unsaturated fats are gooooood, mmkay.... |

Always remember that what u eat today, will show on you in about 2months and not immediately.. I've never known about this, is it really? 2 months is quite a period if you ask me.. are you sure it's taking the body 2 months to show what you have been eating? Would like to know more about this actually |

@ watchout, darn, missed that reply... Imo that's toal and utter bullocks... BUT BUT what I think he meant was that it takes a while for changes to notice sometimes. Don't expect to be Mr. Fitness Boy in two weeks, it takes a lot of time and patience... |
