Stripping your DVD''s with DVD Shrink by rullzer 9/18/2005

Preparations

Get DVD Shrink

Well this part is kind of tricky since it isn't hosted on the website of the author. But check DivxStation's Software Section for the latest version of DVD shrink or use google to get your hands on it :)

Installing DVD Shrink

This is just like any normal windows installation. No special setting just install the program :)

Stripping the DVD

General Steps

When you start DVD shrink you get the dvd shrink screen. Now press "Open Disc" (1).

This screen will appear and you can open the Drive of your choise. This drive ofcourse needs to contain a DVD

Now you get the Analysing screen. DVD shrink is nog checking the DVD. Just wait till it is finished

Full Disk

If you select "Backup!" (1) at this point. DVD shrink will compomize all the files so they fit on a DVD. This is nog recommended since you will experince quality loss. However: If compression is less than 15% (DVD shrink show how much of the original remains so 100-15 = 85%) the DVD is still good to see. Altough i strongly suggest you use CCE passes (see Doom9).

If you select "Full Disc" (2) (defualt) you see the full disc.

In the menu (1) you can select video part you want to edit. You can remove audio streams (2) and substile streams (3) in a second by unchecking the box. You can use this option but remember that you DVD Menu won't be changed.

Only the main movie

Now this is the mainpart of the guide. Because most times when you backup a DVD you only want the main movie. So Select "Re-Author" (3).

Now Select your main movie. As you can see this version of shrek has 2 angels. Chose the first one because this is the main movie. The other is just a bonus. Now drag the movie to the DVD structure (2). Optionaly you could rename yout compilations (2). Now to remove Audio or Subtitle streams select "Compression Settings" (4).

To remove Audio Streams (1) just uncheck the boxes. And the same for subtitles (2). Set compressions(4) to "No Compression" and click "Backup!" (3)

In this screen it is easiest to safe the DVD to a Hard Drive folder since you can then burn it with you favorite burning program. Select the folder you want to store the DVD in. And if you want to preview the DVD after you are done it is best to check "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders." Also in the "DVD Region"-tab select "Region Free" so you can watch it in any player everywhere.

Now you get the encoding screen. Just wait till this is finished and enjoy your DVD.

Extra

This article is meant for people that want to make a quick backup of their DVD. I once made it for some people on IRC and did not find it here. So thought i'd post it. Any suggestions are welcome :).
